Final conference Dutch water mission

Conference organized jointly by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH is held on Friday 27 January at the Parliamentary building of BiH. Purpose of the conference is for the Dutch experts from the Water Authority Riverenland to present their findings and recommendations and for the involved institutions to sign a Letter of Intent for a long term cooperation.

The Conference will be opened by H.E. Mirko Sarovic, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, and by H.E. Jurriaan Kraak, Ambassador of the Kingdom of The Netherlands to BiH.

The organizations will be represented by the Chairman of the Water Authority Riverenland Mr. Roelof Bleker from the Netherlands, the director of the Public Institution “Vode Srpske” Bijeljina Mr. Milan Kikic, director of Sava River Watershed Agency Sarajevo Mr. Sejad Delic and director of the Adriatic Sea Watershed Agency Mostar, Mr. Damir Mrdjen, who will sign the Letter of Intent.

At the conference, Dutch experts from the Water Authority Riverenland will present their findings and recommendations for improvements of the standards and procedures used for monitoring and maintenance of the existing dikes and flood prevention structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These recommendations should assist BiH agencies to improve flood risk management and to establish standards that are aligned with EU Directives. The conference is good opportunity for both sides to discuss findings and recommendations and to find a way to reach sustainable solutions in construction, monitoring and maintenance of embankments and other flood protection infrastructure and facilities - flood risk management planning, implementing sustainable solutions for urban waste water facilities and financing of the water sector.
